Neotech Takes on the SGRG Snow Rally: Conquering the Snow with the Ioniq 5N
Last Tuesday, we had the incredible opportunity to participate in the SGRG Snow Rally, hosted by Yunki Ride in Gangwon Province, Korea. What made this event truly special? Despite being spring, the snow came down hard, transforming this into a unpredictable winter wonderland!
Among a variety of cars, our Hyundai Neotech version Ioniq 5N stood out as a true showstopper. Spectators and fellow participants alike were amazed at how well the car handled the extreme conditions, proving that with the right setup, an EV could dominate the snow rallyscene.
Throughout the event, we ran countless taxi rides over the course, pushing the Ioniq 5N to its limits while giving passengers an unforgettable experience. As the snow continued to pile up and the conditions worsened, one by one, cars began to struggle. But the Neotech Ioniq 5N? It was the last car standing, still carving through the snow-covered track while others had to call it a day. It was a true testament to the engineering behind both the vehicle and the suspension setup we developed for this event.
To tackle the extreme conditions of the SGRG Snow Rally, we made key modifications to our coilover system to ensure optimal performance on snow and ice:
Longer Shock Absorber Travel: Extended by 40-50mm compared to our standard street coilovers, allowing the suspension to absorb more of the uneven terrain.
Lower Spring Rates & Longer Springs: Spring rates were reduced by 15%, paired with longer springs to improve weight transfer and maintain grip on slippery surfaces.
Progressive Rear Bump Stops: Designed to enhance traction under sudden acceleration, helping keep the rear stable in unpredictable conditions.
Damping Force Adjustments: Fine-tuned for better body control in low-traction environments, ensuring that the car remained responsive and balanced throughout the rally.
The Neotech Ioniq 5N proved that electric performance cars have a place in the rally world, even in extreme snow conditions. The event showcased not only the capabilities of the vehicle but also the importance of proper suspension tuning.
